...and as I write this I can hear the rain outside my window...It was not close to my best time, but it was a great time. I drove to the race site this morning, knowing that my training was spotty due to our poor snow winter, and wondering if they really had enough snow for a 42K course. At the start I had an equipment problem with my binding that I could not fix so I just lived with it and did my best to enjoy the course and my own personal effort given the circumstances . The tracks were icy but fast and I spent the last 20K double poling the fairly flat course, because my kick wax had worn off, wondering if my arms were going to fall off (great training for swimming). I survived and crossed the line in 3:14 with a smile.
It got me thinking about how things were less than perfect but it did not matter. I thoroughly enjoyed myself...and I am enjoying that post race endorphine buzz that only endurance athletes can understand.
We all have full lives and Triathlon are one more thing we fit in to our busy day. We hope our training will go perfectly and we hope our race day will go perfectly but that is more the exception than the norm. So forget that you did not get to train all you would like and forget that you may not be in the shape you would have perferred. Just go out there and do it...it can be a great joy just to do the best with what you got on this day and enjoy the privilage of being fit.
Looking forward to the next event..
Onward!
