Triathlon comparison shopping

Posted by on Wednesday, February 02, 2005 (CST)

With the growing demand for Triathlons the entry fees seems to be getting pricey at some events.

Before you assume that all Triathlons are priced the same its good to do a little comparison shopping. Over the years I have learned that when it comes to Triathlons bigger is not always better. Take the Lifetime Fitness Triathlon for example. Although I love the course, and its a well done event, you will not find me at the starting line this year. With a price tag of over $100 to do a sprint event and all the hassles with day before downtown packet pick up, parking, and a long wait before my race begins, I've decided that its a better one to watch than to compete in. Contrast that with one of the best unknown deals in Triathlon....The North Mankato Triathlon. Parking by the Transition area, a well marshalled course (with one really big hill on the bike) and a swimming friendly short .25 mile swim with a 13 mile bike and 4 mile run, it was a bargain last year with a $18 price tag. Do some comparison shopping, ask around and enter before the first deadline to get the best deals.

Onward!
Stephen
